Camel Valley awarded a PDO

After 5 years of hard work, Camel Valley's Darnibole vineyard has been award PDO status.

The PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) system is similar to France's Appellation D'Origine Controlee (AOC) or Spain’s DO system. Camel Valley joins other UK products such as Cornish clotted cream and Swaledale cheese. The tiny 28 acre vineyard is the smallest wine PDO in the UK, the other two wine PDO’s are huge - they are England PDO and Wales PDO.

There are strict rules in place: The grapes must be 100% Bacchus from Darnibole, no acidification or de-acidification is allowed, no sweetening, higher natural alcohol and hand picking (for harvesting). The wine must be made at the adjoining Camel Valley winery and most importantly, it must be compared with previous vintages to ensure typicity.
