Wine harvest bounces back in 2018, with Italy taking the top spot
The Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) has announced that 2018 was one of the bigger crops in the last 18 years with the three big producers Italy, France and Spain all with much larger crops.
Each year Italy, France and Spain vie to produce the most wine. This year Italy produced the most wine with 4.85 billion litres, France was in second with 4.6 billion litres and Spain was in third with 4.1 billion litres.
Overall there has been a 19% increase in wine production compared to the frost hit 2017, with most countries in Europe up. Portugal suffered, like many southern regions, due to mildew that has affected much of Southern Europe.
