Great 2006 vintage in the New World
Winemakers in the New World should soon have cause for some celebratory cork popping as this year’s 2006 vintage looks set to be a winner. In Argentina, it’s been described as the best-ever by one winemaker in Mendoza, according to wine-trade magazine Harpers. Hopes are similarly high in New Zealand, where the grape harvest is expected to be the country’s largest, while Australia is also showing signs of a bumper crop across most regions. And, if you want to really get a feel for what a wine harvest is all about, South African winemaker Vilafonte has dedicated a podcast to it, with daily updates on how it’s all progressing.
