Region
Each year Italy battles it out with France to decide which is the world's largest producer and exporter of wine. With so much of the country under vine from the top to the bottom, it is hardly surprising that the Italians always drink wine with every meal! There are 20 regions spread throughout the country. Tuscany is responsible for Italy's growing reputation for extremely fine wines. Half the country's DOCGs - the highest quality designations for wine attainable in Italy - are in Tuscany. And two of these are for Chianti, the classic wine of Tuscany: Chianti DOCG and Chianti Classico DOCG.
Style
Full-bodied with good chunky tannins that go down well with a rich hearty meal. You can tell these wines have seen oak by the toasty, vanilla aromas as opposed to full-on fruit. You’ll find Rioja and similar styles within this section.
