Region

Beaujolais-Villages is the second most important appellation in Beaujolais, accounting for about a quarter of production of Beaujolais and located on the hillier northern part of the region. The vines for these wines grow in 38 communes and if a wine is the produce of just one village or commune, the name can be used on the label.

The region’s finest – and most long-living - wines come from the northern Beaujolais crus, 10 named villages whose wines merit their own appellations. These are Chiroubles, St-Amour, Brouilly, Cote de Brouilly, Fleurie, Julienas, Chenas, Regnie, Morgon and Moulin-a-Vent.

Style

The Merlot grape produces soft & velvety plummy wines, low on tannins. It is often blended with Cabernet Sauvignon resulting in a wine that is big on fruit but smooth enough to drink on its own without food.
