Umbria's Grapes: Grechetto, Trebbiano
Grechetto
Grechetto is a white grape variety typically grown in Italy's Umbria region where it provides surprisingly good wine at modest prices. The wines are medium to full bodied wines with a floral character to them. The best are capable of nutty intensity. Grechetto has a thick skin that protect it from Downy mildew and is used in the Sturdy if oxidised style of desert wine made in Umbira called Vin Santo where it is typically blended with Trebbiano and Malvasia.
