WSET Level 2 Award in Wines - Classroom & Online


Our online courses are operating during the Covid-19 lockdown and beyond, with a number of online options including a remotely invigilated online exam.

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is a three day course running over 3 consecutive Saturdays or Mondays. It is perfect for those looking to develop a deeper understanding of the wines of the world.

Students study packs are mailed to the student 2-5 days after booking.

About the WSET Level 2 Wine Courses

All courses can be booked directly with ThirtyFifty online (see forthcoming course dates below) or by calling us on 020 8288 0314. If you have already attended a WSET course with ThirtyFifty you can receive a 10% discount on subsequent WSET courses.

WSET Level 2 Classroom

Building on the Level 1, the Level 2 course offers a broad understanding of the principal grape varieties, the regions in which they are grown and the styles of wine produced. Through both tasting and theory, explore the factors that affect style and quality and how to describe wines using the WSET's tasting approach. Holders of the award should be able to interpret wine labels, understand the basic style behind the label and navigate a wine list with confidence.

  • How to taste and describe wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT).
  • Understand the factors that influence a wine's style, quality and price.
  • 8 principal grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz.
  • Interpret key labelling terms to understand the style, flavour and method of production of still, sparkling and fortified wines.
  • Principles of food and wine pairing and the storage and service of wine.
  • 43 different wines to taste across the 3 sessions.
  • Perfect for those employed in the wine industry or looking for their first role.
  • Run over 3 consecutive Saturdays or Mondays, the days can be interchangeable if required.
  • Full Student Pack, including text books and course books, provided.
  • QFC Level 2.
  • A one hour exam on Day 3 consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions. A pass mark of 55% required.
WSET Level 2 Online

If you would like to do the course online, we live stream our courses so that participants can study at home with the wines we are using in class.

  • Online courses are available during the Covid-19 outbreak
  • The fee includes all the wines for the course shipped to the student.
  • The exam, either Online or in Twickenham. A minimum of 3 weeks notice is required.
  • Ability to ask course tutor questions during online class.
  • 792 Flash Cards & 250 Exam Practice Questions
  • Text books provided before the course. They also include an optional set of activities to help prepare students who want to excel or those who are worried they may struggle.
  • Free access to ThirtyFifty's 'Decoding the L2 SAT'. It is a concise guide to how to taste using the WSET's Systematic Approach to Tasting. Students can use the guide at home to practice.
  • Four ISO tasting glasses to use at home and keep.

ThirtyFifty is a WSET Approved Programme Provider (APP), certified to offer the WSET Level 2 qualification as part of the UK's Qualifications and Credits Framework, regulated by Ofqual. We offer the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines as a 3 day course over 3 consecutive Mondays or Saturdays with the flexibility to swap between Mondays and Saturdays if you need to. The course is centrally located in London's Covent Garden.

You can start your wine journey at Level 2, no prior wine knowledge or qualifications are needed to join the course. If you have already studied the Level 1, the Level 2 course is the natural progression.

Where to after the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines Course?

The next step is normally the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines. While the Level 2 is not a prerequisite, you do need to demonstrate a deep understanding of wine to gain entry to the Level 3.
