Martinborough Vineyards with Paul Mason

This show was published Thursday, November 11, 2010

Overview

Paul Mason is winemaker at Martinborough Vineyards, one of the first wineries to put Martinborough on the map as a wine region. We talk about Pinot Noir, the grape the region is best known for.

Martinborough was established as a wine region in the 1980's and Martinborough Vineyards was one of the first four to plant grapes there. The focus of production is Pinot Noir, making up 70% of the winery's output, followed by Sauvignon Blanc at 15% and a host of other varieties making up the remainder. We hear how things have progressed since the first vintage in 1984 and how trials are shaping up to see how the Pinot is ageing under screwcap compared to cork.
