Cellars in the Sky with Tom Otley of Business Traveller magazine
This show was published 02 March 2018
Tom Otley is the editor of the Business Traveller consumer magazine which organises the annual wine competition Cellars in the Sky. The awards have been going since 1985. Tom explains the rationale for the awards which focus on wines served in First Class and Business Class (not Economy). The winning airlines can use the logo free of charge to promote their Cellars in the Sky award on their wine list, but the awards are not a profit centre for the magazine. For 2017 the judges comprised, head judge Charles Metcalfe with 4 other judges this year being Tim Atkin, Richard Bampfield, Sarah Abbott and Peter McCombie who are all MWs. In blind tastings, the judges pick the best First Class and Business Class whites, reds, sparkling wines, fortified and dessert wines awarding a Gold, Silver or Bronze for each category. They then look at the airline's overall wine offering. For 2017, Quantas won best First Class Cellar and Singapore Airlines won best for Business Class. The best overall airline went to Singapore Airlines. Results can be found on
