- The Vines of Mendoza with Michael Evans
Overview
Michael explains how he started The Vines of Mendoza with business partner Pablo Gimenez after being inspired by a visit to Mendoza in 2004. The idea was to sell private vineyards to wine enthusiasts who would be able to group together as a community of owners to grow their own grapes and make wine. Michael bought the land in 2006 and the first vines were planted in 2007 followed by a winery opening in 2010. There is now a hotel resort and spa for owners to stay in when visiting to harvest and to make their wines, alongside the winemaking team consisting of 3 winemakers, a consultant and a wine director. They make around 300 different wines with their owners.
Typically owners sell grapes to local wineries and then make a barrel or two of wine (300 or 600 bottles) to keep for themselves.
Investments start at US$100,000 dollars but are typically between US$200,000 - $250,000.
