- The Golden Vines Diversity Scholarships with Lewis Chester
Overview
Lewis Chester has been collecting fine wines for over 20 years. Originally a lawyer and investment manager he is now semi-retired. Lewis was a friend of the late Gerard Basset who encouraged him to learn about wine and study with the WSET (he has the Diploma). In 2014 Lewis and Gerard started a business together called Liquid Icons. They produced a global fine wine report on trends within the fine wine market and worked on other wine related projects together. After Gerard's death two years ago, Lewis, along with Nina Basset, created a charitable foundation in Gerard's name. Their aim is to promote diversity and inclusion within the wine industry and are raising funds to support wine education for people from the BAME and IPOC communities. Among their initiatives will be two scholarships to study the Master of Wine or Master Sommelier programmes, worth £50,000 each and as part of the fundraising they will host a charity auction at the famous London club Annabel's.
