Heini Zachariassen is CEO and founder of Vivino. In this interview we catch up with Heini on the changes to the Vivino app and how they have updated their wine recommendation app and moved into wine retailing. They work with hundreds of retailers around the world (800 globally) to make it easy for the app user to find and purchase the wines that they like. During Covid the supply chain was under pressure due to the huge rise in online sales.
They sell wine 17 different countries but UK is a focus for them and with funding, they have put in place a team of 20 covering marketing, logistics, e-commerce and communication. As well as retailing via a marketplace for wine retailers, they source about 20-25% of the wine directly from wineries and their scale helps them to secure better deals. Heini discusses their business model and how they remain impartial with the review side of the app and selling wine. We touch on AI and machine learning, for example, Vivino has a new feature called Match for You, where the app recommends other wines, each time you scan and rate a wine.
The UK Wine Show is sponsored by ThirtyFifty. Our team of wine tasters are busy entertaining and educating UK consumers to help them get the most out of wine.
