In this second interview with Craig Pope, European Commercial Director for Petainer and Jack Denley, Marketing Manager, we focus in on how plastic drinks packaging can be re-used via deposit return schemes (DRS).

With glass being quite difficult to decarbonise, re-usable plastic bottles might be a packaging solution that is better for the environment. We discuss how the German and Nordic markets work and why DRS is a key part of making plastic bottles environmentally friendly.

In Germany, Petainer supply plastic bottles than can be re-used up to 15 times via a DRS involving reverse-vending machine. They service c.4 billion fills in Germany which equates to a 90% reduction in plastic waste.

We also explore the problems with re-usable plastic bottles for wine, and why single use may be a better option.
