Overview

Maximilian Riedel is CEO of Riedel The Wine Glass Company. In this second interview, we chat about some of their different ranges and find out how they have been working with some of the more influential, pioneering English sparkling wine producers (Ridgeview, Squerryes, Exton Park) to develop a specific glass. Max sees himself as an ambassador for English fizz, and they have created a special glass with a new shape called the Reidel Veloce English Sparkling Wine Glass which launched in March 2023.

We discuss how changing flavour characteristics of grapes, due to global warming, mean Riedel have to continuously develop their glassware, for example, regarding the size of the bowl, Maximilian says there has been a move towards a larger glass.

The Superleggero (super light) premium range is a development of the Sommelier range and has been re-launched as a machine-made glass. The Leggero glass is the tallest, lightest, thinnest glass available around the world using Riedel's in-house, state-of-the-art technology.
