Overview

Stephen Waters founded the Watershed Group in 2004 offering management courses for hospitality staff. Stephen sees it as coaching rather than training, helping people acquire skills during their careers. Their customers include mid-range restaurants, bars, bakeries and small independent businesses. He has been in hospitality throughout his career, starting on a graduate programme at Trusthouse Forte. Stephen went on to join Pitcher & Piano in 1988 and run the first three bars for them. It was at Pitcher & Piano that he got involved in management development programmes. Pitcher & Piano was bought by Marston brewery in 1996. In 2004 Stephen created Watershed, offering management development courses to hospitality businesses. One of his early customers was Will Beckett of Hawksmoor.

Stephen tells us about one of their courses, aimed at first time managers and called Managing Your Friends.

The programme coaches managers on how to get their first steps in bar & restaurant management off to the best possible start, with four modules: Owning Your Leadership Style, Shift Briefs That Stick, Finding Your Voice and The Culture I Create.
