- Mireia Torres on Ancestral Vines
Overview
Mireia Torres is a fifth-generation Torres with a background in chemical engineering and winemaking. She works at Torres in production and research as Director of Innovation and Knowledge.
Mireia is working on a project with the goal to get historical or ancestral vines back into production. Looking for vines the top two criteria are quality and adaptation to climate change. After that, productivity is important and also to find vines that are later ripening and resilient to disease. They work with an ampelographer to identify the vines.
The grapes they are focused on are:
Forcada - for sparkling and still white
Pirene - red grape
Moneu - red grape
