Overview
Sofia Ricasoli has unveiled two new wines - a Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 and Innesto No.1, an ambitious multi-vintage red blend that combines Sangiovese with 15% Merlot, sourced from vineyards beyond the Chianti Classico appellation.
Chris meets Sofia at Doppo in Soho for the UK launch, where she shares the story behind her latest project. A member of one of Italy’s oldest winemaking families, with a lineage stretching back to 1141, Sofia represents the next chapter of the Ricasoli legacy. After an initial career in law, she joined her father, Francesco Ricasoli, at the family estate and has since been shaping her own vision within the historic winery.
That vision takes form in Innesto (Italian for 'graft'), a project that bridges heritage and innovation. First introduced in Italy last year, Innesto now arrives in the UK through distributor J E Fells. The Innesto No.1 is classified as Toscana IGT, giving Sofia the creative freedom to step outside traditional rules and experiment with style and structure.
Innesto No.1 brings together three vintages (2021, 2022 and 2023) in a single expression, with a limited production of just 3,600 bottles. Developed in close collaboration with the winery team, the wine reflects Sofia’s forward-looking approach while remaining rooted in the family’s deep winemaking tradition.
