50 shades of Red and White
As the hype esculates to a climax for the adaptation of EL James's Fifty Shades of Grey into a film, the author launches a range of wines. The two Californian wines a red and a white went on sale this week on fiftyshadeswine.com priced at £11.25 a bottle. According to the author wine plays an important role within the trilogy hence the product launch - perhaps a branded corkscrew would have been more fitting ?!
The wines carry a simple black label framed by a metallic diamond-shaped pattern and run with the tagline: “You. Are. Mine.”
Red Satin 2009 is a blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah boasting flavours of black cherry, cocoa powder, caramel, vanilla, cloves, spices, and, somewhat fittingly, leather, having been aged in French oak.
White Silk 2012 meanwhile, is a blend of Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc, and, according to the website, offers “floral aromatics of lychee, honey and pear tempered by flavors of grapefruit with a faint hint of butterscotch.”.
Earlier this year a mention of Klein Constantia’s Vin de Constance in 50 Shades Darker sparked unprecedented interest in the South African sweet wine.
Less Grey - more White Red and Rose then ?
