Big boys Veuve Clicquot sue small Italian winemaker

Veuve Clicquot, the second largest Champagne house in the world, has launched legal proceedings over a small Italian family-owned winery who produce 3,500 bottles a year of its sparkling wine featuring an orange label.

Looking at the two labels they use a very different orange and really could not be that easily confused. Veuve Clicquot have trademarked Pantone 137C for their distinctive Yellow Label Champagne yet the Italian fizz sports an orange label. Supporters of Ciro Picariello have since taken to Twitter to speak out against the legal action using #boicottalavedova to mark their protests. A case of the big boys picking on the little boys because they can?
