IWC releases results

The International Wine Challenge 2015 results are out for the Great Value Awards. 12 of the 15 Great Value Awards were given to supermarket own-brand wines. Tesco won 4 of the trophies for sparkling, white, rose and sweet wines. Sainsbury’s scooped a trio of Great Value awards for its own-brand wines and Marks & Spencer and Asda each picked up a pair of budget beauties.
The Great Value Sparkling Wine for under £12 award went to Asda Asti NV, sure to be a crowd pleaser with its £5.25 price tag. If only vintage will do, head to Tesco and pick up the Tesco finest* Vintage Grand Cru Champagne 2007 (RRP £24.99), which was named the IWC Great Value sparkling wine under £25.
Savvy shoppers looking for a delicious white wine that won’t break the bank should buy Aldi The Exquisite Collection Clare Valley Riesling 2014 (£6.99), which picked up the IWC Great Value White under £7 award. In the battle of the reasonable reds, Sainsbury’s scooped two Great Value awards with its own-brand red wines. The Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Côtes du Rhônes Villages 2013 picked up the award for Great Value Red under £7, whilst Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Châteauneuf-Du-Pape priced at just £14.00, received the IWC Great Value Red under £15. Tesco picked up its third Great Value award for its finest* Sancerre Rosé 2014 (that will leave you a change from a tenner) and the Italia Pinot Grigio Rosé 2014 (£7.49) by Boutinot also received the prize.
