Decanter Winemaker Survey

113 of the worlds leading wine producers were asked by Decanter where their dream vineyard would be. Who they most admired, their views on climate change and whether they intentionally make wine that is ready to drink sooner. 52% said climate change had been a challenge to their wine production and 18% said it had had a positive effect. 23% voted for Burgundy as the one wine region where they would also like to produce wine in, 2nd was Barolo and Piedmont at 8% and New Zealand was 4th at 7%. One in four winemakers said that alcohol levels in their wines had gone down and around half said they had stayed the same. 32% said they are now making wines in a style that is ready to drink earlier than in the past. This is in answer to a growing perception that wine lovers are keen to pop their corks early rather than laying them down to gather dust. Only 10% said they take into account wine critics when making their wines.
