2 shots at the coffee shop

After a test in Costa Coffee in Wandsworth, the coffee chain are preparing to serve alcohol in their coffee shops. They will also have later opening times, until 9pm Monday to Saturday and until 7pm on a Sunday. The drinks on offer are Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cider and Prosecco. This is to answer for demand for consumers wanting somewhere to sit later in the evening that isn't a pub. This won't be popular with the mainstream pub/bar segment who are already losing market share to the off-trade segment. This is not a new concept in Europe, where for instance in France they often drink coffee alongside alcohol. Starbucks and Pret A Manager have already introduced alcohol into selected stores.
