The French wine raise funds to re-build Notre Dame
France's wine industry has offered help towards rebuilding Notre Dame after the devastating fire last week. Money wine and oak have all been donated.
Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH and the owner of Cheval Blanc and Yquem, has pledged €200m to repair the church. François Pinault owner of Château Latour and Clos de Tart, had also promised €100m for repairs.
Mouton Rothschild has sold 25 cases of limited edition Versailles Celebration wine in London with the £750,000 going to Notre Dame. The proceeds were originally planned to raise funds for restoration work at the Palace of Versailles, but it was agreed that the London auction should go to Notre Dame.
The roof with its ancient oak beans known as the forest needs to be replaced. The Charlois Group that owns the Saury, Berthomieu & Leroi cooperages has reportedly promised to source the best oak trees for new beams to reconstruct the ribbed ceiling.
