Covid-19 Round-up

France has announced that it will distil 200 million litres of wine worth €140 million, as French producers demand support for sudden shifts in demand associated with the Covid-19 crisis and US tariffs.

US retail sales continue to surge with the week ending the 2nd May 2020 being the second highest growth in alcohol sales ever. The highest was the week ending 21st March 2020 when people were stocking up at the beginning of the pandemic.

Alcohol sales in India have resumed after a 40 day ban was lifted. Demand was so high police had to use batons to control crowds queuing despite a punitive 70% corona tax on all sales!
