Big budget announcements but silence on alcohol duty
A new month, new chancellor and a new economic direction, but Jeremy Hunt the UK Chancellor did not mention alcohol duty in his Autumn statement (the replacement mini-budget) which means no immediate rise, but expect a rise with the real budget next year.
Jeremy Hunt's only public statement on duty was to say that he would undo the freeze on alcohol duty, currently at £2.23 per bottle of still wine or £2.86 per bottle of sparkling wine. So, no change now is a lucky escape, but a rise will be coming.
