Hot Chile burns as fires rip though Bio Bio and Itata
Fires in Chile have left more than 20 people dead, vineyards burnt and 40,000 ha destroyed, and the fires risk the remaining vineyards in the Southern Chile’s Bío Bío Valley and Itata Valley.
Bio Bio and Itata are in the cooler, wetter southern part of Chile. Much of the wine is made up of Muscat of Alexandria and País which are consumed locally, and some Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with an international reputation.
