WSET changes stance on WSET L3 exam
The WSET has announced that students who have a part pass in the old issue 1 WSET L3 Award in Wines syllabus will no longer need to retake the entire course. Instead, students will need to familiarise themselves with the new content and can sit the new exam.
Initially, students who had not passed both the tasting and theory paper by 1 August 2023 were told that they would have to re-sit the entire course. However, the WSET initially rowed back from this, saying that students who had part passes in theory or tasting could retain their passes but must re-sit the failed unit by the 1 August. Then, this week, they said any student with a part pass could resit the failed unit under the new syllabus and would not be required to retake the entire course provided they were familiar with the new content in the Issue 2 text book prior to their resit.
At the WSET APP Global Summit this week, details of the updated syllabus for WSET Level 2 in Award in Wines, was supplied. This is a minor upgrade to the syllabus bringing the course terminology into line with Level 3 and adding a few more regions such as Provence rose, which have grown in prominence.
