Australia starts a long road to reducing emissions
Australia starts a long road to reducing emissions with Wine Australia targeting a 40% emissions reduction by 2030 through creating 11 initiatives.
Currently Australia's carbon footprint for a typical wine bottle is packaging (49%), transport (29%), winery (12%) and vineyard (10%) according to Wine Australia.
The top proposed reduction Wine Australia suggests could help is the decarbonisation of the electricity which will account for 44% of the savings, made up predominantly by decarbonising the grid and either installing solar panels or buying 100% renewable electricity.
After electricity, the second most important saving could come from lightweight bottles and using less polluting fuels to make glass, accounting for 29%, followed by decarbonisation of the road transportation at 20%.
