France produces the most wine in 2023

In 2023 France is predicted to be the largest wine producing country just beating long time winner Italy which was hit by drought and heatwaves in 2023.

Over the last five year average top producers have been Italy, France, Spain, USA, Australia, Argentina, Chile, South Africa, Germany and finally China.

While no estimate for China 2023 production was published by the OIV, its own production has halved from 9.3 million hectolitres (mhl) in 2018 to 4.2 mhl in 2022. Greece was particularly devastated by heatwaves in 2023 with production half their normal 5 year average.
