Brits Banqueting Out on Beaujolais
Sales of Beaujolais have exploded in British restaurants and high end hotels with sales of its Gamay grape up 35% since 2019.
Liberty Wines, a wine merchant in London, claimed their sales growth of Gamay reflects a change in taste, with customers preferring lighter styles of red wine.
Beaujolais is far more modest in price than red Burgundy where Pinot Noir can also produce lighter styles of wine, but Burgundian price rises have seen consumers decide that Gamay can produce the style they want at a much more affordable price.
