US tops list for most expensive wine

New research analysing data from 190 cities, reveals that seven of the top 10 most expensive cities to buy a bottle of wine are in the US. New York tops the list, with an average cost of $20 per bottle, over five times the price in Cordoba, Spain.

The study, conducted using data from Numbeo and compiled by Magnet Kitchens, found that all five of the most expensive cities are in the US, including New York, Columbus and San Francisco. Wine prices are driven by high taxes, with New York's excise tax at 30% per gallon.
Outside the US, Launceston and Hobart in Tasmania, Australia, also made the top 10. In Canada, Victoria ranks tenth, where wine costs $15.29 on average. Cities with cheaper bottles, like Cordoba in Spain, where wine averages $3.55 a bottle, reflect vast price disparities across regions.
London didn't make it into the top ten globally, but it ranks as the most expensive city in the UK for a bottle of wine, with an average price of £9.00 per bottle. This is £3 more than the cheapest city in the UK, Kingston upon Hull, where a bottle costs just £6.
