Château Pichon Baron unveils its first white wine
Château Pichon Baron in Bordeaux has launched its first-ever white cuvée, marking an exciting step for the Pauillac estate. The 2023 vintage of Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, Grand Vin Blanc Sec, made entirely from Semillon, will be available from October through select négociants.
This new release comes with a price tag of £45-£48 per bottle, showcasing a high-quality, dry white crafted from Semillon cuttings sourced from Château Suduiraut, the estate's sister property. The vines were carefully grafted onto 20-year-old vines in Pichon Baron's cool, chalky vineyard known as 'Boua.' The wine underwent whole bunch pressing and was aged for nine months in one-year-old barrels, without malolactic conversion, adding to its refined character.
Although it will be bottled as an AOC Bordeaux Blanc Sec due to classification laws, the launch reinforces the estate's commitment to quality and shows the potential of dry white wine in the Médoc region.
