No thanks to knowing calories in booze

A new University College London (UCL) study reveals that consumers of alcohol in the UK are less supportive of mandatory calorie labelling on alcoholic beverages compared to non-drinkers. The survey of 4,683 adults found that while most respondents favour labelling, support among drinkers was notably lower.

The study showed that hazardous drinkers were more likely to change their habits if calorie information was provided. While 46.4% of drinkers said they might alter their consumption, enthusiasm for the change was generally muted. Researchers suggest targeted awareness campaigns may boost support.
