Wine linked to lower heart attack risk
A new study has uncorked great news for wine lovers: drinking more sparkling or white wine could help reduce your risk of a sudden heart attack.
Researchers from Shanghai’s Fudan University analysed data from over 500,000 UK participants in the UK Biobank study. British volunteers aged 40 to 69 consented to share all their health data for the next 30 years with researchers. Out of 125 modifiable lifestyle factors, four factors stood out as most protective against sudden cardiac arrest —third and fourth on the list were drinking more sparkling/white wine and red wine respectively.
Last year, a Spanish study using data from the same dataset clearly showed that moderate wine drinking reduces your risk of all-cause mortality (i.e. death).
