Burgundy prices go sky high at recent auction

It was going, going, gone . . . at a new world record price for a single case of wine last week. At an auction at Christie’s in New York, a six-magnum case of 1985 Romanee-Conti sold for $170,375, or more than £97,000. The renowned Burgundy wasn’t the only wine breaking the $100,000 barrier at the auction as an unprecedented five other lots did the same. These high-hammer prices follow hot on the heels of a single bottle of 1787 Chateau d’Yquem fetching $100,000 last month. This sweet wine from Sauternes is considered to be the most expensive wine to produce in the world.
