Minimum pricing on hold for 12 months

Plans by the Scottish government to introduce a minimum price for alcohol and increase the alcohol buying age to 21 have been put on hold for at least a year after opposition parties forced the delay believing the moves require brand new legislation and should be fully debated.

First Minister Alex Salmond had originally intended to make amendments to the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 by introducing secondary legislation.
