Low alcohol and no-alcohol market breaks 1 million case barrier
The latest figures from Nielsen show that low and no alcohol wine sales are growing rapidly from a small base and getting close to 1 million cases. This is not far off the volume sold by Argentina, one of the top 10 wine-producing countries in the UK market. The sector, which ranges from alcohol-free wines up to 5.5% abv, grew around 60% by value in the year to the end of September, and by some 50% by volume.
Nielsen say people were increasingly looking to the lighter style low alcohol alternatives, not only to appease their conscience but because they are also often more affordable than higher alcohol wines. A winning combination in these times as long as there is no compromise in taste!
