Naked Wines named Online Business of the Year
Norwich-based wine retailer Naked Wines, has been named the UK's Online Business of the Year at the Orange sponsored, National Business Awards 2011.The company, which is in its third year, saw off nine other finalists to win the title, including LOVEFiLM, Quidco and Feather & Black.
Naked Wines, who has seen over 100% growth year-on-year, has funded 35 winemakers to date, is on course to turnover £25 million this financial year and has recruited over 200,000 customers since its launch.
Rowan Gormley, Founder of Naked Wines, said when they launched, they knew they had to create a game-changing model to make their mark, and by bringing customers and winemakers together through the power of the web, they've created 85 new wines which otherwise wouldn't exist - and stripped away a lot of the pretence and stuffiness typically associated with an age-old industry.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne opened the awards ceremony that included a judging panel comprising of 100 chief executive officer and senior directors from across the UK.
