- Wines of Turkey Taner Ogutoglu
Overview
Turkey is a Muslim country whose people are free to drink alcohol if they choose to. It is also the fourth biggest producer of grapes in the world but only 2% of the grapes are made into wine. While roughly 20 million people out of a population of 70 million consume alcohol, beer is the main alcoholic beverage, followed by spirits. But 70-80 million litres of wine is produced and much is for domestic consumption so we find out about the styles of wines and the different regions and how export markets such as the UK and Germany are providing opportunities for growth.
