Excavations in the western Turkish area of Bornova have revealed Bornova Muscat seeds. They are thought to be the oldest grape seeds ever uncovered in Turkey. The dried carbonised grape seeds were found in the bottom of several bowls. Grape seeds have been uncovered in the area before, with some pips from the Byzantine period uncovered in Negev in Israel last year.
