The Benevolent with Cheng Loo

This show was published Friday, May 20, 2011

Overview

The Benevolent helps ex-employees of the drinks industry who find themselves in need of help for health or financial reasons. The charity was founded in 1866 and this year celebrates its 125th anniversary. It is funded through its membership, from Platinum members (from £17,500) through to individual memberships (£35 a year) and fundraising activities. All beneficiaries must have been in the drinks industry for a minimum of 5 years and each case is assessed against various other criteria before providing one off or regular financial grants. The Benevolent also has sheltered homes in Chorley and a care home in Eastbourne. Its main challenge is to increase awareness amongst the trade which is currently achieves through events such as the annual Spring ball and sports days out.
