2: WSET L3 Course Introduction with Victoria Burt MW
We talk to Victoria Burt the key individual who created the latest Update tot he WSET L3.
We put the Level 3 course into context compared to the Level 1, 3, 3 and 4. We also discuss the key points of the course and what materials students have and how to use them.
Specifically on the course we talk about the clustering of wine styles rather than individual regions. The winemaking chapters of the text book which are more in-depth than previously. We talk about the WSET's SAT (systematic approach to tasting) and how it has been simplified in terms of the main components required during tasting analysis. The wine lexicon has been split into 3 groups - primary group (from the grape), secondary flavours (from fermentation process) and tertiary (from maturation/ageing) - requiring student to identify flavours from each grouping in order to gain marks.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
