Christophe Coquard is a wine maker and negotiant (Maison Coquard) making wines in the Beaujolais region of Burgundy. Christophe talks to us about wines from Burgundy and Beaujolais including Beaujolais Blanc made from 100% Chardonnay. We discuss the different styles of Gamay and the carbonic maceration process which involves putting whole bunches and stems into the tanks to macerate. For Beaujolais Nouveau all grapes are hand-picked as whole berries only plus the stems must be used. Experience and skill are needed to produce a good quality Beaujolais Nouveau and today growers are focusing on quality as well as the more fun aspect of Beaujolais Nouveau day which falls on the third Thursday of November.
