CEO Paul Symington leads the family company with his brother and 3 cousins, having begun working at Symingtons 35 years ago in 1979. He talks us through the family history going back to his great-grandfather Andrew-James Symington who, at 18 arrived in the Douro, and in 1891 married into a well-established Port family. Paul tells us about the different brands including Warres, Dows, Graham's and recently acquired in 2006, Cockburn's. Paul's favourite style is a vintage Port. Symingtons has declared 11 vintages in the time he has been working, with a vintage declared only once every 2-3 years. Top drinking advice: Port will be approaching its best at around 20 years and some can go on getting better and better. Best vintage ever - 1970 but the greatest in Paul's time have been the 1994, 2000, 2007 and the recently declared 2011.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
