D3: China: Background: Bruno Paumard of Hansen on Gobi Desert wines

Bruno Paumard was born in France in the Loire valley but is now living in China, based near to the Gobi desert, Inner Mongolia in the north of China, a region 3 times as big as the UK and mostly desert. The wine region is in the south by the Yellow River and water comes from neighbouring Tibet. Its mainly red grapes that are planted - the Chinese grape, Cabernet Gernischt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but also some Semillon and Riesling. Bruno's winery is called Hansen and they produce 2 million bottles a year. Bruno explains how the traditional Chinese toast is now made with red wine instead of rice wine and how that is helping to grow the consumption of wine. In France the consumption of wine is 59 litres per capita whereas in China its 1.3 litres, but the population is so huge it translates to big volumes and demand is growing. Our clients say...

I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
