D1: Packaging: Background: Prof Rainer Jung of Geisenheim on oxidation and PET bottles
Professor Rainer Jung of the Geisenheim research institute has researched oxidation in wine and explains to us how oxygen gets into the wine during the wine making process, e.g. during and after fermentation and when the wine is being transported into filling machines. We also talk about the reasons for using PET packaging for wine when normal PET can really only protect wine for 3 to 6 months and even multi-layer PET, while offering better more protection against oxidation, will only keep wine fresh for 12-24 months.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
