D1: The Vine: Background: Professor Chris Howe on the parentage of Chardonnay
Chris catches up with Chris Howe, professor of plant and microbial biochemistry at Cambridge University and the man who discovered the parentage of the Chardonnay grape. Chardonnay's female parent is Gouais Blanc and the father was Pinot Noir but this cross gave way to many other cultivars. Chris Howe also tell us about plant chemistry and describes how the vine uses mitochondria and chloroplast to create energy.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
