D4: Spotlight: Introducing WSET L4 D4 Sparkling Wine Tasting with Lauren Denyer
The SAT for sparkling wine at Level 4 is very similar to Level 3 but for L3 sparkling wine are not part of L3 tasting exam). It is slightly different to the general L4 SAT for still wines.
In the L4 quality assessment, which is specific to sparkling wines, the SAT covers dosage and level of sweetness, autolysis (linking to complexity) texture of the wine (mousse/bubbles) and the length. We discuss vintage vs non-vintage styles and some of the different characteristics.
You will taste a flight of 3 wines but they are not generally connected in any way in terms of their style or origin. You might be asked about method of production and the same with the country of origin.
Red sparkling could come up, either a Lambrusco or a sparkling Shiraz. You would need to mention tannins for these.
