Chris Parker is an Englishman who moved to Virginia some 20 years ago but who decided the wines were so good he would export them. In 2008 he set up New Horizon Wines and has been exporting the top quality wines to the UK to independent wine merchants and high end restaurants.
Virginia is adjacent to Washington DC with the Blue Ridge mountains to the west and the Atlantic to the east. We hear about the climate and soils and the history behind the wine region and its AVAs. The signature grape varieties are Viognier, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot but Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay all grow well. With four distinct seasons Chris describes the wines as more European in style (than Californian) but with a uniquely Virginian character.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
