D0: Background: Richard Lane on studying WSET L4 as a blind person
Richard Lane is blind and has been studying wine with the WSET School in London. Richard lost his sight 30 years ago around the age of 20 and he has been studying wine from WSET Level 1, 2, 3 and now Level 4 Diploma.
This is a general chat with Richard to find out how he has found his wine studies as blind person. The main difficulty is describing the colour of wine, but he can use his sense of smell to tell him a little about the colour, for example tertiary flavours will tell him the wine has some aged and therefore what the colour might be. The WSET make adjustments to the exam to take into account his blindness and he has had loads of help from fellow students while in the classroom.
I thought the questions were excellent, an extremely valuable revision tool. They really helped highlight areas I thought I had revised and understood but clearly had not, which has enabled me to focus on key areas to revisit and study before going into the exam... I think it is a great resource and an essential revision aid for any WSET 3 students wishing to gain a competitive edge and successfully pass the WSET 3 exam.
